Making SENSE of SCRIPTURE
I was raised to be an army officer but God had other plans and curtailed my career with a "thorn in the flesh" awakening me to His call to exposit the Scriptures, teach, shepherd and write.
My life verse is
2 Corinthians 12:9
“My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.”
By His grace I have served Him in ministry for 36 years - 3 decades of which I have pastored 6 churches in Georgia and South Carolina.
In the meantime God allowed me to marry way up and have 3 geat adult kids.
I believe in one God, Creator and Sustainer of all life, Who is uniquely and mysteriously three in one – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Who loves us in spite of our sin and Who made the ultimate sacrifice of condescending Himself to become one of us in the person of Jesus Christ.
I believe that Jesus Christ, God the Son, was mysteriously fully human and yet fully God and as the result of both His humanity and deity, provided the only adequate sacrifice for our sins as He suffered and died on the cross of Calvary.
I believe that Jesus Christ was resurrected the third day and sits at the right hand of God awaiting a day in which, in His good pleasure, He shall return to judge the world and usher in the eternal state.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Christ, the Comforter promised by Christ, Who indwells every believer and empowers them for service.
I believe in the trustworthiness of the Holy Scripture – the Old and New Testaments – as a perfect revelation inspired by God and that these Scriptures are able to provide mankind with an accurate testimony of the work of God making them wise unto salvation.
Every Christian's primary ministerial and theological influencer must be Jesus Christ. He doesn't merely tell the believer about God, He is God! He does not merely reveal truth, He is Truth! He is the master interpreter of Scripture and is preeminent in this pastor's thinking.
Thr apostle Paul is the master interpreter of Jesus' identity, ministry, and theological teachings and the application of those teachings in His church. His testimony informs my own and his teaching is authoritative for my faith and practice.
Other theologians who have influenced my theology, Biblical study and practical application have included: Charles H. Spurgeon, Deitrich Bonhoeffer, C. S. Lewis, Soren Kierkegaard, R. C. Sproul, D. A. Carson, Tim Keller, John MacArthur, Voddie Baucham, John Piper, Charles Swindoll, Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Albert Mohler, Henry Blackaby, and Charles Q. Carter.
